Plot
Story
by Robert McKee

Contains a lot of original, very useful thought about the qualities that make a story powerful, and the techniques that bring a plot to life. You can open to any page and find something that will improve your current project--or read cover to cover and broaden your understanding of all stories. Not just for screenwriters.

The Writer's Journey
by Christopher Vogler

Details the "Hero's Journey" model of plotting, first discovered in mythic fiction by Joseph Campbell, and applies it to modern storytelling, using clear language and well-known examples. It's very exciting to see other writers using these patterns, once you've been made aware of them. Highly recommended.

20 Master Plots
by Andrew Tobias

Through history, people have said that there are only 3, or 20, or 36 plots in all of literature. While not claiming to be comprehensive, this book details 20 of the more useful plot structures that modern writers should have at their disposal.
